Serie A Betting – Matchday 22 Preview (Feb 9-10)

The chasing pack stuttered last weekend in Serie A, allowing Inter Milan to restore a commanding lead with an uninspiring home win over Empoli. The Nerazzurri are now eight points clear of second place Roma, who were humbled in a 3-0 defeat at Siena, while third place Juventus were held at home by bottom club Cagliari. Even if the title race turns into a procession for Inter, every week of Serie A offers great opportunities for Asian Handicap punters, with up to 60% better Serie A sports betting odds at Pinnacle Sportbook.

Udinese & Juve Scrap for European Places

It now seems that the only team that can realistically catch Inter Milan, are second placed Roma. Beyond those two sides it is now all about securing crucial qualification for Europe, and in particular the Champions League. That goal is essential for Juventus, having missed out last season. The Old Lady are on course, currently in third place, but there are several clubs snapping at their heels, including sixth place Udinese who they visit on Sunday.

A win for Udinese would leave them just five points behind Juve, and their recent record against the divisions top sides is encouraging. The Zebrette (Little Zebras) held Inter Milan to a 0-0 draw in the last game at the Stadio Friuli, giving hope that they can go one better against a Juventus side that has kept just one clean sheet in seven games. Juve coach, Claudio Ranieri, will be feeling the pressure of expectation while his opposite number, Pasquale Marino, will hope to repeat the 1-0 away win over Juventus last September. Udinese have lost just of their last eleven home games but PinnacleSports.com make them marginal underdogs 1.893 (0/scratch & +0.5)* with Juventus 2.040 (0/scratch & -0.5)*

AC Milan Gathering Positive Momentum

AC Milan have taken full advantage of their games in hand, gathering positive momentum after the Winter break, and moving into fifth position, with five wins from six games. Last weekend AC scored a crucial win at fourth placed Fiorentina, thanks to a goal by substitute Alexandre Pato, the famous club’s latest sensation. Unfortunately for coach, Carlo Ancelotti, Pato twisted his ankle, joining a growing list of injured players, including Kaka, Ronaldo, Inzaghi and Gattuso. To make matters worse his only fit striker, Alberto Gilardino, is suspended for this weekend’s home game against struggling Siena. The game therefore may closer than the table suggests.

Last weekend relegation threatened Siena recorded a shock 3-0 win at to second placed Roma, giving them confidence for this trip to the San Siro. The Black and Whites have won two away games this season, but both victories came in their last three road trips, suggesting that coach, Mario Beretta, has found some improvement. The win over Roma shouldn’t be considered such a huge surprise as Siena ran Inter Milan close at the Stadio Artemi Franchi in January, losing 3-2. Given the Rossoneri’s injury problems, Beretta will be looking for another upset. Nevertheless PinnacleSports.com make AC Milan favourites 2.060 (-1.5 & -2)* with Siena 1.870 (+1.5 & +2)*.
