The Sens managed to score first with a wrist shot by Ryan Dzingel (7 goals, 2 assists) halfway into the first period. Both teams were scoreless in the second, and in the third, Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau (13 goals, 12 assists) tied things up with a goal, but Ottawa’s Chris Tierney ensured his team’s victory in the final few minutes, ending his 30-game scoring drought. It was an incredible outcome for the Sens, who turned to fourth-stringer goalie Filip Gustavsson, with Matt Murray, Marcus Hogberd, and Joey Daccord all on the IR. Gustavsson earned first star in his first appearance as a starter thanks to his 35 saves.

The Flames are still adjusting to new head coach Darryl Sutter and have gone 4-3 since he took over for Geoff Ward. The fatigue of playing their third game in four nights following a tough Toronto series definitely showed. The 15-15-3 Flames are losing their grip on a potential playoff berth with just 23 games left on their schedule.
