The Montreal Canadiens came out hard in the first period, but after some strong play from Golden Knights’ goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, the Knights went to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead. A string of penalties against Montreal in the second period permanently shifted the momentum of the game and Vegas marched to a dominant 4-1 victory.

The Habs will need to find a way to maintain their intensity over the course of 60 minutes, while staying out of the penalty box. One bright spot came with Cole Caufield’s first career playoff goal. The rookie looked strong through much of Game 1 and had several grade A scoring chances. Top defenseman Jeff Petry, who missed his second straight game of the playoffs with a hand injury, is a game-time decision for Game 2.
