The top-seeded Sixers (49-23 SU, 38-31-3 ATS during the regular season) took the series opener 125-118 on Sunday, but didn’t quite cash in as 8-point home favorites in a game that remained competitive until the final moments. Tobias Harris (37 points) and Joel Embiid (30 points) led Philly in scoring, while Ben Simmons posted 15 assists and 15 rebounds.

No. 8 Washington (34-38 SU, 41-30-1 ATS) outscored Philly by 27 points in the 18 minutes that Embiid sat out, so they have reasonable hopes for Game 2 – especially if third-string center Daniel Gafford can reproduce his efforts from Sunday. Gafford scored 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting and led all Wizards at plus-12. Alex Len and Robin Lopez were a combined minus-21 as they tried to contend with Embiid down low. Davis Bertans also came off the bench to score 14 points for Washington and post a plus-9.
