MLB Odds: NL Wild Card Race Heats up With Mets-Nats

If the New York Mets are going to complete their miracle comeback and make the MLB postseason, they’ll want to put up a good fight this week when they visit the streaking Washington Nationals, who control the first Wild Card spot in the National League. The finale of this three-game set will be streamed live on YouTube this Wednesday beginning at 1:05 PM ET.

Zack Wheeler (4.41 ERA) will take the mound for New York in his fifth start of the season versus Washington. The Mets went 1-3 in his previous four games against Washington; the only quality start for Wheeler was his most recent matchup on May 21, when he allowed three runs over seven innings in a 6-5 victory for New York (–140 at home).

Washington will respond with fellow northpaw Anibal Sanchez (3.80 ERA), who has faced the Mets twice this year, leading the Nationals to the pay window both times – although his first start on May 16 was cut short by injury. When they met on August 11, Sanchez gave up three earned runs over five innings as the Nats (+175 away) prevailed 7-4. OF Adam Eaton (.812 OPS) is day-to-day for Washington with a sore knee.
