MLB Odds: Jays Welcome Rays to Rogers Centre

The next MLB Game of the Week on YouTube is coming up this Thursday, and it features two American League East rivals in the 40-32 Tampa Bay Rays and 40-32 Toronto Blue Jays. First pitch from Rogers Centre is 7:07 PM ET; the starters have yet to be officially announced at press time, but it looks like Jeffrey Springs will twirl for Tampa opposite Yusei Kikuchi.

This particular matchup would give the Rays a considerable advantage. Springs (2.25 ERA) may be a spot starter, but the fifth-year lefty has led Tampa Bay to victory in each of his last five appearances – although four of those games ended in a no-decision for Springs. He also pitched 4.2 scoreless innings back on May 15 when the Rays beat Toronto 3-0 as +105 home dogs.

Kikuchi (5.08 ERA) was signed in the offseason to shore up the Jays’ rotation after three years with the Seattle Mariners, including a surprise All-Star nod last season. It’s been rough sledding so far; Toronto have dropped 10 of Kikuchi’s 14 starts for a loss of 5.43 betting units, with the Over riding a six-game streak. The patchwork Jays bullpen has a 2-6 record in Kikuchi’s no-decisions.
