MLB Odds: Game 1 of 3-Game Set Between Toronto-Texas Starts Friday

On Friday, the AL West and AL East will meet when the Toronto Blue Jays host the Texas Rangers for the first game of a three-game set. This will be the second time this season that they meet. The Rangers won two of three games in April and will look to bounce back from a two-game skid from their Oakland series. Tune in at 7:07 PM ET to catch the action at Sahlen Field in Buffalo.

Toronto is +1100 to win the AL East this season, as they’re sitting behind Boston and Tampa Bay with a 45-42 record at press time. Their record is a bit misleading, though, as many of their losses were close games and many of their victories dominant performances. The Jays’ +72 run differential is fourth in the AL and exceeds that of the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox (+57). With a .64 batting average and 130 homeruns, the Jays are second in the Bigs on both counts, with much of their offensive production being bolstered by a dominant first half from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (.332 batting AV, 28 homeruns, 73 RBI), who’s part of the AL All-Star lineup tonight.

While the Jays haven’t yet disclosed a starting pitcher for Friday, we’re expecting Jordan Lyles (5-5, 4.86 ERA. 76 SO) to take the mound for the 35-55 Rangers. Lyles seems to have found his groove of late after suffering through a rough stretch in April-May. Texas is in rebuilding mode this season, as they look to develop some young talent.
