MLB Odds: Braves, Twins in Possible World Series Preview

The Atlanta Braves are comfortably ahead in the NL East race with under 50 games remaining in the regular season. The Minnesota Twins are holding onto first place in the AL Central. They’ll meet this Wednesday at Target Field for the finale of an important three-game interleague series, beginning at 1:10 PM ET on the MLB Network.

The projected starting pitchers are unofficial at press time, but it looks like Kevin Gausman (6.19 ERA) will take the mound for Atlanta opposite Martin Perez (4.58 ERA). Gausman has performed better than his ERA would suggest; however, the Braves are 8-8 in his 16 starts thus far, while the Twins are 11-8 with Perez pitching.

Minnesota’s bullpen has been significantly better than Atlanta’s this year, although Sam Dyson (3.48 ERA) hasn’t helped the Twins since coming over from San Francisco at the trade deadline. After two ugly games for his new team, Dyson was placed on the 10-day IL with tendinitis in his right biceps. Hitting has been Atlanta’s strength, but Braves SS Dansby Swanson (.798 OPS) is out with a left foot contusion, while RF Nick Markakis (.787 OPS) will probably miss the next six to eight weeks with a broken left wrist.
