Heavy rain delays day three of Scottish Open

INVERNESS, Scotland — The Scottish Open fell further behind schedule on Saturday, with the start of the third days play delayed because of heavy overnight rain.

With the Castle Stuart links course in Inverness flooded, organizers said there will be no play until 2 p.m. (1300 GMT) at the earliest.

Half of the field – including first-round leaders Lee Westwood of England and

Mark Tullo of Chile, as well as No.1-ranked Luke Donald — are still to complete their second rounds in the warmup event for next weeks British Open after thunderstorms and the threat of lightning brought an early end to play on Friday.

A further decision on the resumption time will be made by organizers at noon (1100 GMT). Spectators were not even being allowed access to the course.

Former U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell was in a three-way share of the lead on 11 under par with Scottish pair Peter Whiteford and

Scott Jamieson, with all three players completing their second rounds in dry, still conditions early on Friday.

Spains

Jose Manuel Lara was one shot adrift, with three players — Argentinas Angel Cabrera, Belgiums

Nicolas Colsaerts and Scotlands Paul Lawrie — a stroke further back on 9 under par.
